As all you regular readers must know, Toni and Guy take care of my locks – short though they may be, they actually require quite a hell of a lot of maintenance – regular blow-dries, treatments, colour changes and of course haircuts. My usual salon of choice is the one at The Hilton hotel but I recently paid a visit to the salon at The Plaza Shopping Center in Malta and I think my location choice might change.
The salon was recently renovated and the effect is beautiful, the soft palette using light grey and white blends in perfectly to lend a feeling of serenity. There’s lots and lots of light in the shop and from the minute I walked in I felt relaxed, almost as though I had walked into a spa. The staff are great too – there’s Alex Lapira who has over 14 years experience in cutting and styling hair, he has also won numerous awards. Interestingly enough, he started his career working for Toni Guy and has now returned to work for the company at The Plaza. There’s also Robert, a lovely guy who is passionate about colouring hair, has been working for over 10 years and is L’Oreal certified. Then there’s the great Kim who’s specialty is blow-drying – she has never met frizz she couldn’t tame.
I decided to go for a colour change on my visit. The usual Toni and Guy treatment awaited me – comfortable shower basins, a great wash and condition (this is really not something found in every hair salon) offers to bring me tea and water and lots of current magazines to read. I decided to get a toner applied in a dark shade of purple. I opted out of a blowdry so they styled my hair in two thick braids instead.
If you live or work or just love to visit Sliema I suggest you pay Toni and Guy at The Plaza a visit, they might become your salon of choice.
