Body Shape Post : Learning Your Body Fruit Shape

A pear or an appleBanana or hourglass? … We’ve all heard the names but do we truly understand them ?? Our shape can help us understand what type of clothes we should be wearing, this is the first in a series of posts that I will be writing to help you understand your bodies.

Lets start at the very beginning….
  • Calculate your waist and hip ratio – measure the circumference of your hips at their widest point and the circumference of your waist just above the belly button.
  • Divide your hip measurement by that of your waist and store that number. This is your hip-to-waist measurement.
  • Divide your waist measurement by that of your hip and store that number. This is your waist-to-hip measurement.
  • Next calculate your waist and bust ratios – measure the circumference of your bust. 
  • Divide your bust measurement by that of your waist.This is your bust-to-waist measurement.
  • Divide your waist measurement by that of your bust.This is your waist-to-bust measurement.
If both your waist-to-hip and waist-to-bust measurements are less than .75  with bust and hips measuring the same or within 1-2 inches of each other and your shoulders are as broad as your hips then you are hourglass.
If both your waist-to-hip and waist-to-bust measurements are greater than .75 you are an apple. This shape generally has a largish belly area, an average size breast,  and a rather flat bum.
If your hip-to-waist is greater than 1.25 and your waist-to-bust is greater than .75 then you are a pear shape. Small breasts, small waists, a flat tummy and sloping narrow shoulders are general characteristics of this shape. It is also possible to have a larger bust and be pear shaped.
If both your waist-to-hip and waist-to-bust measurements are greater than .75 and very similar to each other or your hips and bust are practically the same measurement then you are a rectangle. Generally quite long and lean  with shoulders equal to hips.
If your bust-to-waist  is greater than 1.25 or waist-to-hip is greater than .75, with bust more than 2 inches bigger than hips then you are an inverted triangle. Ample breasts and broad shoulders, narrow hips and little or no waist are general characteristics.

If your bust-to-waist and waist-to-hip ratios vary little and your waist is less than 9 inches smaller than your hips and bust measurements, then you are a banana shape – sometimes called a ruler shape.
