Wedding Post : How to Wear : Hats & Fascinators for a Morning Wedding

This post follows the previous post about what to wear to morning weddings . In general, there are a lot of thoughts on either side of the fence with regard to hat and fascninators and morning weddings. Some people believe not wearing one to be akin to a mortal sin whilst others claim the rule is outdated and ‘there’s really no specific need to wear one‘.

As you all know I’m one of those stylists that tries hard to eliminate rules,  I always say that fashion is about finding what works for you rather than following a prescription. Whilst I think a hat/fascinator completes an outfit in a good way, neither do I think it wrong for someone to skip this if they truly don’t enjoy wearing one. After all, an uncomfortable guest is an unhappy guest and what bride and groom want an unhappy guest at their wedding? For those of you who do enjoy wearing one..here’s an outfit idea on how to incorporate a fascinator:

A morning wedding

I’ve blended in a few colours to keep the outfit interesting and to avoid it looking dated. The only patterns in the outfit are the ones on the dress and earrings so that avoids the pitfall of having too much going on. A busy outfit is something a lot of people feel uncomfortable with. In my opinion, the colour combinations of the different shades of pink together with emerald green pair up rally well together – the earrings happen to have both shades so they really tie everything together
This outfit would probably look best on an apple shaped woman but a thin pear shaped woman would probably get away with it, a woman that is simply thin all over will also look good in this style. Basically, the main thing to keep in mind is that the dress should not cling around the hips, it should be loose and just skim the hips and thighs for it to work well. Unfortunately for petite women who hate wearing heels, this style will look best on someone tall or someone wearing rather high heels.

Hey Caroline, Thanks for the information.

I live in the tropics and have been invited to a morning wedding. I was considering buying a dress but then thought of one I owned: brown, 1 inch straps with a glittery button where each strap meets the body of the dress and about knee length. I'm thinking of pairing with a gold pump. Material: polyester. Would that be okay for a morning wedding?
